Calling in the Waste Local Plan for review

Calling in the Waste Local Plan for review

UPDATE
The Government Office for the South East Has instructed East Sussex County Council to delay adoption of the Waste Local Plan. Read the letter.

DOVE are formally asking the First Secretary of State to call-in the Waste Local Plan for review. We believe there is sufficient reason for the First Secretary of State to examine the procedure leading up to adoption of the Plan. The closing date for call-in letters was 13 January 2006.

Chairman Chris Chatwin's letter is available in full. We also have a trimmed down version in Word format. You should get acknowledgement of receipt like Chris's.

Economic Impact Assessment on the Incinerator for Newhaven - This report highlights the damaging effects the incinerator would have on the much vaunted regeneration of Newhaven.

Waste Local Plan, Proof of Evidence - Another large document pointing out many problems with the Waste Local Plan as it stands.

Some things they may consider:

  • conflict with national policies on important matters
  • could have significant effects beyond the immediate locality
  • give rise to substantial regional or national controversy
  • raise significant architectural and urban design issues
  • involve the interests of national security or of foreign governments.

Please note: this is quite separate from the Planning Application for the incinerator plant in North Quay, Newhaven. It just so happens that the Call-in period of the Waste Local Plan and the Planning Application consultation overlap, but they are separate procedures. Please ask the First Secretary of State to call the WLP in AND ALSO object to the planning application in order to make your views fully known. We have a separate page dealing with the planning application.
